
The Newton Cardinal Football team ended the regular season with a 49-7 win over Des Moines Hoover. The Cardinals had 21 points on the board in the first four minutes of the game with a 16-yard Caden Klein touchdown run, a Caden Klein to Finn Martin 17-yard touchdown pass, and a Colton Northcutt interception return for a touchdown. Two more scores from Skyler Milheiser and Caden Klein made the score 35-0 at the end of the 1st quarter. Des Moines Hoover scored with just under nine minutes left in the 3rd quarter with an interception return for a touchdown. The Cardinals limited Des Moines Hoover to 50 total yards and six first downs. Newton had 20 first downs and just over 300 yards of offense. Newton Coach Andy Swedenhjelm felt it was a fitting Senior Night.
“We got some great kids that are Seniors for us. I love working with those guys every single day. They put a lot of hard work in and are great representatives of the community.”
For the second year in a row, the Cardinals end the regular season 6-3.
