The PCM football team defeated Des Moines Christian at home in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs Friday Night.
The Mustangs dominated all of their opponents during the regular season and saw a little bit of a closer game then they were used to against a good 4-4 Lions team. However, Coach Greg Bonnett says that his team needed some adversity as it is inevitably going to come at some point down the road. The Mustangs went into half with a 26-10 lead and ultimately got the 41-19 victory. Bonnett said his team played well, but there were a few miscues in the contest that they will look to clean up moving forward. Bonnett said he is excited to get back to it next week in the second round after they settle in from Friday’s win.
“This game really helps. It really does. Getting into a game things didn’t go our way all of the time. You need a little adversity for sure. You’re going to experience it sooner or later. I think this game is more training for that than anything else. All of a sudden now as a player and a coach you’re like hey some stuff didn’t quite go right tonight, and we weren’t able to be totally physically dominant, and some of our guys got dinged up and we had to have some guys come in and play. It makes you just reflect and everything you could do and it kind of excites you to get back to it so you can come back next week and be really ready to go.”
PCM improves to 9-0 overall on the season. The Mustangs will find out Saturday morning who they will face in the second round of the playoffs at home next Friday.
