The Pleasantville football fell at home Friday night to the Iowa City Regina Regals in the opening round of the Class 1A playoffs.
The two seeded Trojans drew a tough 7-1 three seeded Regina team that they knew would be steep competition. After the Regals went up 25-8 near the end of the second quarter, momentum shifted the Trojans way as they brought the game within three points. Ultimately the Regals got the 31-21 win to knock Pleasantville out of the playoffs and end their 2024 season. Pleasantville Coach Mack Jorth said he was proud of how his team battled, and the effort they put in all season. Jorth said it has been fun to watch this team grow all season.
“Looking back on the course of the year from where we were game one to where we just were in game nine, the distance we have come, the improvements we have made, and the way we came together as a group has been phenomenal. There are just none of the issues that we had to deal with early on. The kids just came together well, they responded well to the challenges, the coaching, and they made the correction they needed to. It has just been really fun to watch them grow and it has been a lot of fun to work with them.”
The Trojans finish the season with a 6-3 overall record and will return a majority of the team next season.
