The first official Trick-or-Treating in Jasper County will occur today in Lynnville. It’s part of a special Lynnville Halloween Celebration. It begins at 4 p.m. with games and a costume contest and prizes at the Lynnville Library and City Hall. There will be Trunk or Treat at 4:30 p.m. on South Street between the Library and City Hall. Trick-or-Treating and hayrides leaving City Hall will occur from 5 to 7 p.m.. The Lynnville Fire Department’s Soup Supper will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Trick-or-Treating in all the other communities in Jasper County will be Thursday, October 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.. That includes Newton, Colfax, Monroe, Prairie City, and Sully. Houses that wish to hand out treats should turn on their outdoor lights.
The cities suggests these tips for a safe halloween:
- Children under age 12 should be accompanied by an adult
• Older children should walk with a buddy or group
• Walk from house to house; do not run
• Wear light-colored clothing and costumes
• Add reflective tape to costumes and bags
• Take a flashlight or glow stick
• Vehicles should drive slowly and expect heavy pedestrian traffic
