The Simpson football team maintained their unbeaten record at Buxton Stadium on Saturday with a 24-16 victory over Buena Vista as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
The Storm jumped out to an early 10-0 lead off the back of a J Jensen to Cole Staska touchdown and an Aiden Lanier field goal, then added on to the lead with another Jensen to Staska connection to go ahead 17-0 in the second quarter. The Beavers scored a touchdown late, only to see the Storm run the two-minute drill and score with just seconds left in the first half with a Jensen to Noah Cracraft touchdown throw to lead 24-7 at the halftime break.
The second half was dominated by the Beavers however, as they would kick a field goal on their first possession of the third quarter to cut the lead to 14, then after the Storm defense held on to force multiple turnover on downs, the Beavers finally struck in the fourth to cut the lead to 24-16, but the Storm would be able to run out the clock and secure the win.
Head coach Reed Hoskins said the defense made just enough plays to win against a talented quarterback, and while the offense had struggles they had a great start and were able to build a lead big enough to hold on to the win.
Jensen threw for 246 yards and three scores, and sits just one touchdown back from tying the all-time mark in school history. Simpson is now 4-4 on the season, and has a bye this Saturday.
