Central College swept top honors in the American Rivers Conference this week, as women’s soccer midfielder Piper Eighmy and football receiver Cam Schulte were named the conference’s Women’s and Men’s Athletes of the Week. Defensive lineman Ethan Thomas was also cited as the football Special Teams Player of the Week.

Eighmy had four goals on the week, including a hat trick in a 6-0 rout of Nebraska Wesleyan University in Pella on Saturday. She also scored in Central’s 5-0 home win over Coe College on Wednesday, bringing her season total to six goals. The Dutch are 10-5-2 overall and 3-2-2 in conference play, with their final regular season game Tuesday at Loras College. The six-team conference tournament begins Saturday.

Schulte pulled off a hat trick of sorts as well, with three touchdown catches in Central’s 38-21 football victory at the University of Dubuque on Saturday. He had six receptions overall for 134 yards, pushing his season totals to 30 receptions for 427 yards and four scores. Thomas made a pivotal play in Saturday’s win over the Spartans. With Dubuque threatening to cut into Central’s 21-7 lead late in second-quarter, Thomas swatted away a 36-yard Spartan field goal try, leading to a Schulte 74-yard touchdown reception three plays later to give the Dutch at 28-7 halftime cushion. Central (6-2 overall, 3-1 conference) makes its final home appearance of the season Saturday against Loras College at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium.
