The #5 Indianola volleyball team dispatched WDM Valley 3-1 in the regional final Tuesday night to advance to their third straight trip to the state tournament. The Indians won decisively in the first and second sets 25-11 and 25-14 to quickly go up 2-0, but the Tigers weren’t done and led from start to finish in the third set to win 25-23 holding off a late Indians comeback to force the fourth and final set. The fourth was back and forth before the Indians went on a late run to win 25-18.
Seniors Makenzie Sloan and Aspen Nelsen said after the match they were confident going into postseason play, and they want to continue to get momentum heading into state.
Sloan
“We just really talked about focusing on what we need to do, and push on our side rather than the other side. Because when we are up and we are high we are unstoppable.”
Nelsen
We talk a lot about momentum, gaining momentum and just having fun and enjoying the game. We have a lot of seniors on this team so the big message is to go out and have fun and play the game we know how to play. When we are playing our best, there is not a team that can stop us.”
The Indians will match up with #4 Dowling on Monday at 2pm.
