Longtime Indianola Fire Department Captain Chuck Cross ended his last shift at the department Wednesday morning, after 31 years of service with the department.
Captain Cross tells KNIA News his favorite part of the job was the everyday interactions with those that he served.
“Seldom do we go out where we are not appreciated. It is a very thankful job on one end of it, sometimes it is thankless, but most of the time we are revered by the public and we want them to know we are there to help from the youngest schoolperson to the oldest adult. We often see people on their worst days, we see them come into the world and we see them leave the world, and everything in between. So I would say my fondest memories were the people. That’s why I do the job.”
Captain Cross’ final call took place Wednesday morning after his final shift.
