Jasper County hunters have harvested 89 deer and 193 turkeys so far this year, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Deer and Turkey Harvest Report. Thirty-nine of the deer were does or doe fawns and the rest were bucks. Only five turkeys have been taken this fall, the other 188 were harvested in the spring. The Early Muzzleloader Deer Hunting Season for residents wrapped up last week and the first archery season is still underway. It ends December 6th, with the second season December 13th through January 10, 2025. The first Shotgun Season for deer is December 7-11, 2024. The second Shotgun Season is December 14-22, 2024. Statewide, the DNR Harvest Report says 12,061 deer have been harvested so far this year, along with 16,273 turkeys. The Spring Turkey Hunting Season was April 5th through May 12th. The current fall season for gun and bow hunting for turkeys began October 14th and ends December 6th. Archery only hunting is allowed from December 23rd to January 10th, 2025.
