A great season came to an end Wednesday night for the #9 Pella Christian volleyball team, as they fell 3-1 to #8 Iowa City Regina in the Class 2A Region 8 Championship match.
The Eagles opened the contest on the down side of a 5-0 run and were unable to catch up to the Regals the rest of the way as they dropped the first set 25-15. Pella Christian responded in a big way in the second set, putting together a major run behind strong play from Rachel Kacmarynski to tie the match at one set apiece by a score of 25-14. The third set saw Regina turn to the state-leader in kills Reese Naeve, who powered the Regals to a 25-11 set and put the Eagles back against the wall. Pella Christian battled hard in the fourth set, but ultimately fell short 25-16.
Chloe Huisman recorded a double-double in her final game for the Eagles, posting 45 assists and 22 digs. Huisman finishes her high school career with 2,759 assists, 900 digs, 362 kills, 209 aces, and 88 blocks. Faith Kacmarynski had a team-high 23 digs on the night, wrapping up her career with 1,037. Three Pella Christian girls recorded double digit kills in the match as Brynn Roozeboom had 17, Rachel Kacmarynski had 13, and Addie Van Arendonk had 10.
The Eagles finish the season with a 24-12 overall record and will graduate six seniors from the program in Chloe Huisman, Faith Kacmarynski, Claire Westerkamp, Maggie Heinen, Madi Vanden Bosch, and Addison Bandstra.
