A long time florist on the downtown Pella square is changing ownership.

Lois Vermeer has sold Thistles to Alie Muller-Heit, with the transaction officially taking place today. Vermeer purchased the shop just over a decade ago, and she is grateful to the many partners in the store and customers who supported their efforts.

Many of the familiar faces will still be there, and Alie has been learning so much from from our Shirley Vermeer, who served as my manager at the shop for years and just always did such an outstanding job,” she says. “[Our] designers are our fabulous and some of that will still, of course, be available and continuing. We certainly prided ourselves always on excellence and customization and just personal attention to whatever we would do for a customers. We appreciate it every one of those customers as well.”

Muller-Heit is excited for the opportunity to expand the business and keep a florist in the Central Business District.

“We are thrilled to be the downtown florist in Pella, who has been a part of so many of the community celebrations and honoring moments of families,” she says. “We will continue to have floristry at the heart of what we do at Thistles Flower Market.”

A community open house will be held on November 8th and 9th at the store to highlight the upcoming holiday season and the ownership transition. Hear more about Thistles on today’s Let’s Talk Pella.
