The Newton YMCA hosted an open house Friday to introduce the facility’s new President and CEO to the public. George Sorensen officially took over that position on Monday, October 28th. Sorensen says he became interested in the job because the Newton YMCA is established and has strong roots in the community. The YMCA’s  expansion plans were also a draw.

“I have some history with being able to build a facility and open a YMCA facility in Wichita. So that experience to grow and expand upon what has been established here is what attracted me to come here and be part of this.”

Sorensen worked as the Branch Manager for the Greater Wichita YMCA in Wichita, Kansas for the past five years. Prior to that, he opened and served as Operations Manager for Opti-Life Vitality Club and Spa in Wichita. Sorenson says his wife Ashley and their 15 year old daughter and 12 year old son will be joining him in Newton once their home in Wichita is sold.
