It’s been six years since the Pella volleyball team made it to the final eight of Class 4A, and on Monday, the Dutch will try to keep a special 2024 season going in the state quarterfinals. No. 5 in 4A Pella (39-7 overall) will take on No. 4 in 4A Clear Creek-Amana.
The Clippers are 37-7 overall and looking to make a run to the top of the class after a perfect season was spoiled in the state tournament last fall. CCA defeated a common foe with the Dutch to advance to state, knocking off Dallas Center-Grimes 3-1 in the regional finals last Tuesday (21-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-18).
Clippers Standout Junior Averie Lower helms the offense with 390 kills in 44 matches, which ranks 3rd in Class 4A. Pella’s balanced attack will also have to contend with a CCA team that is 3rd in 4A in blocks at 292; the Dutch will look to counter behind the service line with their 243 aces, ranking 3rd in 4A.
Pella is making the school’s 11th state tournament appearance. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at XTREAM Arena in Coralville. Tune into live play-by-play on 92.1 KRLS at 5:30 p.m. with pregame coverage.
