Polling site workers are putting in a long day today as they assist voters and oversee today’s General Election. In Jasper County, Auditor Jenna Jennings says they have seven to eight workers at each of the County’s 18 polling sites.
“That’s about 126 poll workers for this General election. They start at 6 a.m. and will probably go until about 9 p.m. this year.”
Jennings says each poll worker undergoes half a day of training before the election. The workers can even register voters, but Jennings notes that will take a little longer.
“If you are not registered you can go to your polling site and vote. It will take a little bit of time for the poll workers to get all your information typed in, but you can register right there at the polls.”
Voting ends at 8 p.m. tonight. There’s local interest in a countywide $6.4-million Bond Referendum, two contested County Board of Supervisor races, and contested voting in the 1st Congressional District and 38th District State Representative seats.
