A new Des Moines Register Political Poll and the lack of a new Farm Bill were frequent topics at a Republican Get Out the Vote Rally in Newton yesterday afternoon. U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley and 1st District Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks were the featured speakers. Van Maanen Electric in Newton hosted the event. Miller-Meeks believes that momentum among voters is with Republicans despite Sunday’s Des Moines Register poll, which claimed Democratic Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris is now leading Republican Donald Trump.
“We have other polls that show exactly the opposite. I can tell you that when I am out on the ground, I am not seeing what the poll is reflecting.”
On the Farm Bill, Miller-Meeks says Iowa’s farmers are currently facing unfair competition from Brazil and China, and adds that the bill is needed to level the playing field.
“Farmer’s want the Farm Bill passed and they want to be able to compete with other countries.”
Senator Grassley called the Des Moines Register poll an outlier, meaning its results are different from all other polls. He also believes President Biden should be more involved in getting a five year Farm Bill passed.
