Newton Police have filed charges against three juveniles suspected of stealing firearms from a Newton home this summer. Two of the juveniles’ parents have also been arrested. Newton Police Chief Rob Burdess says a burglary in the 1600 blk of West 7th Street South was reported on August 21st, 2024. The victim reported that firearms and numerous other items were stolen. As a result of the ongoing investigation, Chief Burdess says burglary, reckless use of firearms, and trafficking stolen firearms charges have been filed against three juveniles. He adds the parents of some of the suspected juveniles are accused of attempting to hide, conceal, and/or alter physical evidence related to the prosecution of their children. Forty-four year old Brian Ray Hammer Sr of Newton is charged with accessory after the fact, obstructing prosecution, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He’s free on a $4,000 bond, with a court appearance set for Tuesday, November 12th. Thirty-Eight year old Amanda Lynn Bruce of Newton is charged with obstructing prosecution and has been released on a $2,000 bond, with a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday, November 19th.
