The Central College men’s and women’s soccer teams each competed in the American Rivers Conference Tournament Semifinals Wednesday night, but both squads came out on the wrong end of 1-0 decisions.

Behind 15 saves from goalkeeper Zoey Sizemore, the Dutch women’s soccer team battled with, but ultimately fell to #11 Loras College in their first semifinal appearance since 2016, while the Central men lost to Wartburg College in their first semifinal appearance since 2018.

After a scoreless first half the undefeated Duhawks drew a penalty in the box and converted the penalty kick in the 82nd minute. The Dutch women were outshot 24-1 and 16-1 in shots on goal in the contest. Kylie Bloomstrom was the only player with a recorded shot on goal for Central.

The Dutch men outshot Wartburg 13-11 but were only able to get two shots on goal from Spencer Taylor and Trysten Vasquez. After a scoreless first half the Knights scored the game’s lone goal off a corner kick in the 53rd minute. Central goalkeeper Ronan Murphy stopped three of the four shots he faced on the night.

The Central men’s soccer team finishes the season with an 8-9-2 overall record, while the Central women’s squad finishes the season with 11-7-2 overall record, marking their most wins since 2017.
