The Indianola City Council met in a joint session with the Indianola Wellness Campus Board of Trustees Monday evening, discussing the future of the campus and possible changes. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News an issue brought before the board was the existing 28E agreements with the Indianola School District and Simpson College, where both entities put $750,000 up front for the construction of the facility and through that would be able to use the pool at no cost. Reeves tells KNIA News the city, school district, and Simpson College are all better when they work together, and the growth of the swimming programs has led to needing possible changes.
“With increased utilization on all fronts, each entity is making a little bit more money on more students and more participation and what not, but it creates more strain and cost on the overhead. So we just need to sit down with our partners, go over those costs, and find a balance that works for all of us so we can have this asset long term.”
