A Felony Theft charge has been filed against a thirty-one year old Newton man accused of breaking into a construction trailer last Saturday and stealing $2,000 worth of batteries and charges. Newton Police say Alex Micheal Spangenburg was arrested Wednesday, after he was identified as a suspect through security video at the scene. Police say Spangenburg and his SUV were clearly seen in the video. Officers say Spangenburg cut through a fence to get the stolen batteries and charges to his vehicle. The police report states the November 2nd theft occurred around 2:30 in the morning, at a construction site in the 200-block of East 12th Street South. Spangenburg is charged with 2nd Degree Theft, a Class D felony, and 4th Degree Criminal Mischief, and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, November 12th.
