The PCM football team will host the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks tonight in the Class 2A State Quarterfinals with a trip to the UNI-Dome on the line.

The 10-0 Mustangs are coming off a 48-6 rout of Greene County last week in the second round of the playoffs, and they will now take on a 7-3 Mid Prairie squad who defeated Mediapolis 35-14 last week and are riding a seven game winning streak after losing their first three games of the season. PCM has continued to see dominance on the defensive side of the football and their offensive line is playing better than any unit in the state. Mustang running back Adrien Robbins has rushed for 1,807 yards this season and 21 touchdowns while quarterback Gavin Van Gorp has thrown for 1,438 yards and 27 touchdowns along with rushing for 319 yards and 12 touchdowns.

PCM defeated Mid-Prairie last season in the second round of the playoffs 36-0. The Golden Hawks are bringing a majority of their starters back from last season including starting quarterback Brady Weber and starting running back Hudson Ehrenfelt. Weber has thrown for 1,610 yards this season and 11 touchdowns while Ehrenfelt has rushed for 1,315 yards and 26 touchdowns. PCM Coach Greg Bonnett says his team continues to have a lot of fun on this ride while they remain focused on the opponent in front of them.

“Sometimes I think I can interchange the word fun with focus. It’s all over some of our signs around here. We just really believe that for a football player that focus is the most fun you can possibly have, because that’s how you’re going to make plays, and making plays on the football field is a lot of fun. It’s not fun when you have dirty eyes and you don’t really know what is going on and you don’t know what you’re seeing, but when you’re focused and you’re locked in as big and strong, and physical, and fast as our guys are this game is going to become very very fun for them.”

Tonight’s Class 2A Quarterfinals matchup in Monroe will start at 7:00 pm and can be heard live on 95.3 KNIA.
