This week the Newton City Council started the process of making the city’s fiscal year 2025-2026 Budget. Newton Mayor Evelyn George says developing that spending plan will take up a lot of the city council’s time over the next several months.
“The budget process is long and involved but does require a lot of time and attention. We have to have it completed by the end of April in order to meet State requirements. We will actually be having budget workshops after each of our council meetings now through April.”
Newton’s city department heads will be compiling their budget recommendations and presenting them to the city council. Council members will then evaluate those recommendations and decide how the revenue will be spent. Mayor George says costs are going up for the city, just as they are for families and their household budgets.
