Central Women’s Basketball Never Trails in Win

Led by 42 bench points, the Central College women’s basketball team never trailed in their first win of the season, as they defeated Monmouth College (Ill.) 90-49.

The bench unit was led by guard Jasmyn Williams who had 10 points and seven assists. Guard Allie Rateike added three second-half three pointers to finish with nine points, while forward Bailey Reding also provided nine points off the bench. As a team Central (1-1) shot 41.6% from the field and 32.5% from three-point range. Guard Abby Johnson led the Dutch with 15 points and four steals. Forward CeCe Moore recorded a double-double in the contest, racking up 11 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Emily Naughton had six points, five assists and five rebounds. Guard Hannah Dau added nine points and Gabby Moore contributed seven points in the win.

Central continues its homestand on Wednesday, hosting Grinnell College at 7 pm.

Central Places Nine at Millikin Men’s Wrestling Meet

The Dutch men’s wrestling team had nine place winners Saturday, competing at the Millikin Open in Illinois.

There were no team scores kept in a meet with 19 teams from across multiple levels. Central crowned an individual champion at 157 pounds as University of Iowa transfer Carter Martinson went 5-0 with a pair of technical falls. Samuel West also made it to the championship bout at 184 pounds before losing a 4-1 decision to No. 12 Cael McLaren of Cornell College in the final. He pinned No. 7 Blake Williams of Adrian College (Mich.) in 3 minutes, 50 seconds in the semifinals. At 141 pounds, Pierre Baldwin went 4-1 and won by technical fall in the third-place match, after suffering an overtime loss in his semifinal.

Other place winners for Central included David Vukobratovich in third at 125 pounds, Austin Roos in fourth at 197, Ethan Skoglund in fifth at 133, Hayden Hearne in fifth at 285 and Rheiner Stahlbaum in sixth at 125.

The Dutch travel to Cedar Rapids for their first dual of the season on Wednesday against Coe College at 7 p.m.

Central Women’s Wrestlers Grapple at Waldorf Open

A difficult field at the Waldorf Open resulted in a frustrating day for the Central College women’s wrestling team Saturday.

The Dutch entered 10 wrestlers, primarily freshmen, and came home with a 5-21 record. Freshman Gia Ritter went 2-2 at 131 pounds, including a technical fall victory in her opening match. At 207 pounds, Selena Snell also went 2-2, winning her second match by fall in the first period and adding another win by decision.

Central is off for a week before returning to action on November 22nd and 23rd at the Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, Missouri.
