The Simpson football team led after the first quarter against the Kohawks of Coe College on Saturday, but eventually fell 47-10 as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
The Storm defense forced an early turnover and the offense would eventually take advantage of the rainy conditions with an Aiden Lanier field goal that put Simpson up 3-0 at the end of the first quarter, but the Kohawks settled in for a strong second quarter that put them ahead 19-3 at halftime. Simpson had a long drive to start the second half to potentially get the game back within a score, but an interception turned into a 90-yard touchdown pass to put Coe up 26-3, and the floodgates opened. A blocked punt touchdown, pick-six, and another long rush put the game out of reach. Quarterback J Jensen threw a late touchdown pass to Cole Staska for the only Storm touchdown of the day, and with the throw is now in a tie for the all-time passing touchdowns lead in Simpson history.
Head coach Reed Hoskins said after the game the team fought for the entire game, they just have to execute better in the first quarter and build a bigger lead, then fix the mistakes they made in the second half to keep the game close and give them a chance.
Simpson falls to 4-5 on the season, and will host Luther in the season finale on Saturday.
