The Iowa Culinary Institute Baking and Pastry Arts Program at the DMACC Newton Campus is currently accepting orders for its Fifth Annual Thanksgiving Dinner Roll Fundraiser. Students in the program prepare freshly-baked white or whole wheat rolls that can be ordered for Thanksgiving at $8.00 per dozen. Orders may be placed online now through noon on Monday, November 25, at baking.dmacc.edu.
Chef Ryan Binney leads the Baking and Pastry Arts Program at the DMACC Newton Campus. He says proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to help cover travel costs for more than two dozen of his students who plan to attend the 2025 American Culinary Federation National Convention next summer in Las Vegas.
Last year’s fundraiser set a record for total orders, with students preparing approximately 700 dozen – or 8,400 individual – dinner rolls for customers. That nearly tripled the fundraiser’s previous record of 263 dozen, which was set just one year prior in 2022.
Roll orders are to be picked up from 10 a.m. to Noon on Wednesday, November 27, at both the DMACC Newton Campus and the DMACC Urban/Des Moines Campus in downtown Des Moines.
Students who complete the one-year Iowa Culinary Institute Baking and Pastry Arts diploma program at the DMACC Newton Campus graduate as baking artisans who are prepared to begin working or to continue on to earn a two-year culinary degree.
