Forty-two drama students at Newton High School are in the final days of rehearsal before performing the play “The Little Town of Christmas” this coming Friday and Saturday, November 15th and 16th. Melinda Robertson has been Newton’s Middle School Drama Coach for over twenty-five years, and also the High School Drama Coach the past twelve years. But she has been working with many of these students a long time.
“We start them young. Sue Beukema with the Newton Community Theatre and I started a children’s theatre. So some of these kids I have had since they were in Kindergarten. And some of the kids I have coming back now that are younger, their parents were with me.”
Robertson adds she loves watching her students grow and expand from each year and each play. She says “The Little Town of Christmas” is a comedy written by Pat Cook that encompasses many Christmas traditions. The play has two acts, twelve scenes, and an intermission. Both performances at Newton High School’s Auditorium this Friday and Saturday begin at 7 p.m.. Admission to the play is $6.00, with refreshments at intermission.
