The Indianola School Board elected to not move forward with offering early retirement for this school year to district staff, coming at the recommendation of the administration. Superintendent Tara Paul tells KNIA News issues with hiring new staff led to the decision.
“Last year we had a hard time filling positions. We had positions that were left unfilled because we couldn’t find qualified applicants to fill them. When you offer early retirement, you offer it across the board, and it can affect the general fund. We had a slim general fund savings last year, however we also had special education and associates retire, those funds don’t affect the general fund because they are separate, we receive funding differently for them.”
