A season that started with playoff expectations comes to an end today as the Central College football team is in Lincoln, Nebraska to play Nebraska Wesleyan.
The Dutch had their playoff hopes dashed with a last second loss to Wartburg and an overtime heartbreaker at Coe, and enter today’s game at 7-2, 5-2 in the American Rivers Conference. The Prairie Wolves are 3-6 and 2-5.
Dutch Coach Jeff McMartin says that it’s one last opportunity for the seniors and fifth year players to play the game they love while continuing to build for the future.
“We talk about raising the floor and making our average better all the time. We want to make sure that what we accept and what we say is our standard has improved as the year goes on so that you go into next year and your standard is higher than it was the year before. We need to execute well, we need to play well and we need to play with some Dutch toughness and be real physical on both sides of the ball.”
Kickoff is scheduled for 1pm today at Abel Stadium in Lincoln. Trevor Castle and Don DeWaard will call the action live on 92.1 KRLS, beginning with pregame coverage at 12:35.
