The Knoxville Police Department is reminding local businesses to protect themselves from shoplifting this holiday season.
This is the busiest time of year for retail stores as the holidays approach, which increases the risk of theft. The Knoxville Police Department says that having working and effective security cameras in your business can help combat theft, and can store a large amount of video to be easily accessed from a mobile device.
According to the Knoxville Police Department, cameras should always cover all exits, entrances of dressing rooms and bathrooms, the point of sale, and be strategically placed to cover areas where a thief could easily conceal items while hidden from employees. Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller encourages anyone with questions about cameras to contact his department. Fuller also says that stores should be set up the right way for employees.
“Arranging your store in a way that your employees can see from a lot of different angles. Not creating hidden areas in your store where people can conceal things. Then just encourage your employees if they see something they should say something either to a supervisor, or if a supervisor isn’t there feel free to call us.”
