The Simpson women’s soccer team won a thrilling victory on Saturday over the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse 2-1, but fell to #1 ranked WashU 5-1 on Sunday to end their season in the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.
The Storm earned a goal from Ally Hoffa near the start of the second half against LaCrosse, but the Eagles would tie it up to force overtime. Neither team found the back of the net in the first overtime, but senior Cassie Nash scored in the 101st minute to send the Storm to the next round.
The second game against the Bears got out of hand early, with WashU going up five goals in the first half before the Storm were able to stabilize, getting a late goal from Julia Wagoner. Simpson’s season comes to a close with a 15-3-3 record, only dropping games to the ranked #1 and #2 teams in the country.
