The Indianola girls basketball team went through multiple injuries and young players in new positions last year, and will try to capitalize on that growth for this season. The Indians lost leading scorer Lauren Olson just three games into the season, forcing bigger roles for then freshmen Alexa Guyer and Madi Grover, in addition to juniors Zoey Belt and Dana Blake having to score more, and head coach Jeff Janssen tells KNIA Sports that growth from last season will be a big help this year.

“Alexa Guyer had to step into a starting role last year when Lauren went out and earning 1st team all-conference honors says a lot, and very similar with Zoey Belt who earned 2nd team all-conference really stepping up from her sophomore year to her junior year and is taking an even bigger leadership role for us this year. So without a doubt we have some of that experience back and we will continue to try and build on that and putting girls in positions to be successful.”

Indianola went 6-17 last season, but graduated just two seniors.
