New Jasper County Supervisor Thad Nearmyer was sworn in at yesterday’s Jasper County Board of Supervisors meeting. District Court Judge Thomas Murphy delivered the Oath of Office to Nearmyer. Nearmyer said he was honored to serve on the Jasper County Board of Supervisors and said he was ready to get to work. In another election matter, the Jasper County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution requesting a recount of all the ballots cast across the County in the 1st District Congressional race. Jasper County Auditor Jenna Jennings noted the recount was requested by Democratic Candidate Christina Bohannan.
“This is just a standard procedure for a recount. The Bohannan campaign requested a recount in all of her districts.”
Jennings told the Supervisors she was still waiting for word on when the recount will take place. She did say it needs to be completed by December 2, 2024. Current results show incumbent 1st District Congressional Representative Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks leads Bohannan by just over 800 votes.
