Students are returning to Pella Middle School today following an apparent assault with a knife by a student Wednesday morning.
Pella Police Chief Shane McSheehy accuses a 14-year-old male student of attacking at least two others at 7:41 a.m. before classes had started. Those two individuals were treated on site by Pella Community Ambulance personnel.
Pella Middle School was placed on lockdown as emergency responders arrived. Many students did not return to class following the incident, but the building did remain open for the remainder of the school day Wednesday.
Superintendent Greg Ebeling says they will have several mental health resources on campus through the remainder of the week to assist with the transition back to class.
Ebeling says a staff member talked the alleged attacker down without physical constraint.
