A former Lynnville-Sully football player who had a ten-year-plus career in the NFL is now a member of the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Hall of Fame. Jeff Criswell was one of six former Iowa football players honored during halftime of last night’s Class 5A Championship game in the UNI-Dome at Cedar Falls. He’s a Searsboro native who was a standout quarterback for Lynnville-Sully.
Criswell was a two-time all-conference player for the Hawks, and played three other sports for Lynnville-Sully before graduating in 1982. Following high school he attended Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, and moved from tight end to the offensive line. He became a Graceland and NAIA Hall of Fame selection. In 1987, Criswell was signed by the Indianapolis Colts. His NFL career ended at the conclusion of the 1998 season, after also playing for the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs.
Joining Criswell in the Iowa High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame Class of 2024 are Marshalltown’s Chanse Creekmur, Jon McLaughlin from Sigourney-Keota, Roger “RJ” Meyer of Central Lyon/George-Little Rock, Luke Vander Sanden from West Lyon and Brandon Wegher of Sioux City Bishop Heelan. Starting in 1980, the IHSAA began the process of honoring former players for their on and off the field accomplishments through induction into the hall of fame.
