Newton Boys Basketball Coach Jason Carter has seven seniors on this year’s team, but only one has significant varsity experience. Cade Bauer did not start any games last season but played in all 23, usually as the first player off the bench. Junior Caden Klein is the only other returning starter, and was the team’s third leading scorer last year. Coach Carter says having a lot of seniors on the roster is a good thing, no matter how much varsity experience they have.

“If you are not going to have experience, it’s nice at least to be playing with seniors that have been around and know what we do really well and what we expect. But being upperclassmen, that will help us a lot.”

Coach Jason Carter says he’s faced this situation the past two years. The Newton boys basketball team will open the season Tuesday, December 3rd at Grinnell, as part of a girl-boy doubleheader. Both games can be heard on KRLS3 starting at 5:45 p.m..
