Central Trio Close Out Cross Country Season
Running with the nation’s best, three members of the Central College cross country teams competed at the NCAA Division III Championships Saturday.
Saturday’s national meet was held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute. In the women’s 6,000-meter race, Addison Parrott was 49th in a time of 21 minutes and 56 seconds and Peyton Steffen finished 101st in 22:22.7. Derek Webster placed 202nd in the men’s 8,000-meter race after crossing the line in 25:48.1.
Parrott, Steffen and Webster will now turn their attention to the indoor track and field season, which for distance runners begins with the Dutch Holiday Preview on December 13th at Central’s H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse.
Central Women’s Basketball Takes Down the Pioneers
Led by 31 bench points and a strong fourth quarter, the Central College women’s basketball team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Platteville 70-60 Saturday afternoon.
Central (5-2) outscored the Pioneers 22-10 in the fourth quarter, and overall shot 38.8% from the field, 38.5% from behind the three-point line, and 22-27 from the free throw line. Samantha Scott led the team off the bench with 15 points, shooting 5-10 from three-point land. CeCe Moore also had a strong game, scoring 14 points on 5-6 shooting while collecting nine rebounds, three blocks, and three steals. Also off the bench, Jasmyn Williams scored six points while dishing out three assists. Gabby Moore scored nine points, Abby Johnson added seven points and four assists, and Hannah Dau contributed six points and two steals.
The Dutch are on the road again Tuesday when they start American Rivers Conference games, and they face Simpson College at 5:30 p.m.
Central Men’s Basketball Never Trails in Win
Shooting 50% from the field and 42.9% from three-point land, the Central College men’s basketball team earned a big win against Cornell College 102-61.
The Dutch (2-2) held Cornell to 29.2% from the field and 22% from behind the three-point line. Joshua Van Gorp led the team in points again and collected another double-double scoring 24 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Owen Schipper also had a strong game scoring 22 points on 6-9 shooting from behind the three-point line, while also collecting seven rebounds and four assists. As a team Central had 32 assists on its 39 made field goals. Kaleb Brand had seven assists to lead the squad and Bradley Curren added five. Will Henricksen scored 14 points off the bench shooting 4-6 from behind the three-point line and dished out two assists. Grant Uecker and Nash Smith both made two threes and scored eight points.
The Dutch return to the court Tuesday when they open American Rivers play at Simpson College at 7:30 p.m.
Dutch Women’s Wrestlers Show Growth at Missouri Valley Open
Taking to the mats at one of the deepest tournaments in women’s collegiate wrestling, the Central College women’s wrestling squad showed progress with their young lineup at the Missouri Valley Open. Central had just seven wrestlers competing, most of which are newcomers to the team. Gia Ritter won her first match by fall at 131 pounds before dropping the next two bouts. Madilyn Rowson also won her first match of the day by fall at 160 pounds. The Dutch travel to Storm Lake for the Buena Vista Open on Saturday, December 7th.
