The Norwalk girls wrestling team opened their season at the Urbandale Invitational on Saturday, placing 11th out of 16 teams. The Warriors scored 91.5 points, with seven out of nine wrestlers placing in the top eight.
Sophomore Madison Froehle paced Norwalk with a second-place finish, going 3-1 with three pins in the 105-pound weight class. A trio of Warrior girls placed fourth on the day: Hannah Smith at 120 pounds, Kaylie Popiano at 130 and Lizzie Reeves at 235. They combined to win seven matches – five on pins.
Also placing for the Warriors were Katie Liedtke (6th at 190), Maya Wojtowicz (7th at 125) and Savannah Halstead (8th at 115).
Norwalk will host a meet on Monday at 5:00 p.m.
