Those cooking a Thanksgiving day meal this week should follow proper food safety guidelines and recommendations. Warren County Health Services Director Dr. Joelle Stolte tells KNIA News that according to the CDC, those preparing a turkey should never leave it thaw at room temperature, always wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds before and after handling the turkey, cook the bird and accompanied stuffing thoroughly to a minimum temperature of 165 degrees, and refrigerate leftovers within two hours of cooking to prevent food poisoning.
