The Pella Christian girls basketball team travels to Class 1A #3 Montezuma tonight with the goal of starting the season 2-0 for the first time since 2020-2021.
The Eagles opened the season this past Saturday with a 70-19 blowout victory over Davis County, limiting the Mustangs to just 18% shooting while also forcing 31 turnovers. Competing in a battle of ranked teams in their opener last Friday, the Bravettes fell to Class 2A #4 North Mahaska 51-32. Tonight’s contest marks the ninth meeting between the two teams since 2016, with Montezuma claiming each of the last three games. Pella Christian’s last win in the matchup with the Bravettes came in 2020, when they won 63-52. The Bravettes are led by the senior duo of Ellen Cook and Shiressa Wetering and junior Claire Erselius. Cook was Montezuma’s leading scorer in their season opening loss with 10 points, while Erselius and Wetering had nine and seven points respectively.
Tip-off of tonight’s contest between the Eagles and Bravettes at Montezuma High School is slated for 7:30 pm.
