During their first two games of the season, the Norwalk girls basketball team used explosive third quarters to pull away from Urbandale and ADM. In game number three on Tuesday night, the Class 4A fourth-ranked Warriors wasted no time taking control against Bondurant-Farrar.
Scoring the first 27 points of the game, Norwalk led 27-2 after one quarter and defeated the Bluejays 68-19 in a game heard live on the KNIA3 stream. The Warriors enter Thanksgiving break at 3-0 overall and will return to action next Tuesday night at Ballard.
Playing their first game of the season, Bondurant-Farrar was overwhelmed by Norwalk’s early defensive pressure and plagued by turnovers. The Warriors passed the ball well both in transition and their half court sets, and finished the night with eight 3-pointers. Norwalk head coach Joe Sigrist tells KNIA Sports that he emphasized the importance of a good start on Tuesday, and he was proud of the response.
“Our goal is always to start 8-0 and make the other team call a timeout. We did that, and then I look again and it’s 17-0 and they call another timeout,” he said. “That’s what we want to do, that’s how we want to start the game, and I like our defensive intensity that then led to some offensive production.”
Norwalk junior Pearl Brown did not score a point until the second half, but her tenacious on-ball defense helped create a steady stream of Bluejay turnovers. Bondurant-Farrar scored only four first-half points and didn’t reach double digits until the fourth quarter. Norwalk’s scoring ledger was extremely balanced, led by Ava Carlson’s 13 points. Avery Thomas hit four treys off the bench for 12 points, Bailey Birmingham scored 11, Braylyn Birmingham had nine points and Grace Linder added seven.
