Claiming the program’s first 2-0 start since 2020-2021, the Pella Christian girls basketball team cruise to a 68-54 upset victory over Class 1A #3 Montezuma Tuesday night.

The Eagles grabbed a narrow advantage after the opening eight minutes of play, holding a 17-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. Pella Christian grew the advantage in the second and third quarters, outscoring the Bravettes 17-10 in the second to take a 34-23 lead into halftime, and again outscoring Montezuma 22-13 in the third to build up a 56-36 edge. The Eagles’ lead remained around 20 points for a majority of the fourth quarter, but a pair of late Bravette three-pointers cut the final score margin to 14, as the Eagles secured the upset win. Pella Christian’s defense was relentless for the second straight game, limiting Montezuma to making just 32.2% of their shots in the contest.

Pella Christian is now off for Thanksgiving Break, and will resume play on Tuesday, December 3rd at home against Class 2A #1 Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
