Through their first two games of the 2024 season, the Pella Christian girls basketball team has used a balanced offensive attack to start 2-0 for the first time since 2020-2021.
In their wins over Davis County and Class 1A #3 Montezuma, the Eagles have made 47.2% of their shots from the field and 36.4% of their shots from three-point range. Helping fuel Pella Christian’s 69 points per game, has been a selfless offensive approach and well-balanced scoring. The Eagles are averaging 19 assists per game, with three girls scoring in double figures and another three girls scoring six points or more per contest. Pella Christian head coach Brendan Foughty says he hasn’t been shocked by his team’s unselfish play and says they still have room for improvement.
“Going into any game this season, I don’t think I’d be surprised if we finished with any five of our starters scoring twenty points. They’re all capable, they all do it in different ways, but I think for us to continue to grow as an offense it’s just recognition of what matchups we’re getting.”
The Eagles return to the court on Tuesday, hosting Class 2A #1 Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in a game that can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
