History at Knoxville High School was made last week when the first girls wrestled under the Knoxville banner. The Panthers went 2-1 at the Cardinal Duals, the Panthers first ever event, and four wrestlers competed at the varsity level at Nevada on Saturday with Serenity Turner placing 3rd at 105 pounds. Both Turner and Andie Branson tell KNIA/KRLS Sports it is exciting to finally have a girls wrestling program they can call their own.
Serenity: “It’s really nice to get the recognition. Our supporters in Knoxville have wanted this and we’ve wanted this.”
Andie: I’ve definitely been pushing to have our own team since I started wrestling. It’s amazing to see how many girls are now interested in wrestling, and all of the girls try so hard every day, and it’s been amazing.”
Turner’s record this season early on is 6-1 and has the goal of making it back to the State Meet this season. Branson is off to a 3-2 record. The next meet the Panthers are in is the West Central Valley Quad next Thursday.
