Two members of this year’s Newton Cardinal Football team received recognition from the Iowa Football Coaches Association (IFCA). Sophomore linebacker Nick Milburn was named to the IFCA’s All-State First Team Defense, while junior quarterback Caden Klein was selected as a utility player to the IFCA’s All-State Second Team Offense.
Milburn led the team in total tackles (102), solo tackles (95), and tackles for loss (9.5). Milburn was also selected to the Class 4A District 4 All-District team. He was named to the First Team Defense and was chosen as the Co-Defensive MVP, along with Pella’s Nate Warner.
Klein threw for 1,445 yards and 8 touchdowns this season. He also ran for 1,126 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was also selected to the Class 4A District 4 All-District Team. Klein was chosen to the First Team Offense as a utility player.
Milburn and Klein will be key members of next year’s Cardinal football team, which will attempt to make a 4th straight Class 4A playoff appearance.
