Two unnamed Jasper County Sheriff Department deputies are going to be promoted to patrol sergeants. Jasper County Sheriff elect Lt. Brad Shutts’ got his request for the two new patrol sergeant positions approved by the County Supervisors this past Tuesday. He says these positions will provide extra night time patrol supervision, oversee the new Baxter School Resource Officer, and cover some of his current duties.

“One would be for half the area that I used to do, which is to oversee investigations. That person would also be in charge of the new SRO program in Baxter. The other position would be an extra body out on patrol, plus be an extra supervisor for our young staff.”

The new patrol sergeants will be salaried positions, while the two current deputies that are going to be promoted are paid hourly. Lt. Shutts told the County Supervisors those deputy jobs will remain vacant.
