The City of Newton is participating in Small Business Saturday tomorrow. It’s the annual nationwide holiday that encourages people to shop at local businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Newton Mayor Evelyn George signed a proclamation declaring November 30th Small Business Saturday in Newton. She’s encouraging shoppers to explore Newton’s small businesses and support the community’s entrepreneurs.

“According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, sixty-eight cents of every dollar spent at a small business stays in the local community and county. And every dollar spent at a small business creates an additional forty-eight cents in local business activity. So in Jasper County we really want to continue supporting our small businesses and how they contribute to the local economy and create jobs.

In connection with the Mayor’s proclamation, shoppers can get Shop Small bags from Newton Main Street starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, while supplies last.
