The Newton boys and girls bowling teams host Pella today at Cardinal Lanes. 

The Cardinals opened the season at home last week with wins over Gilbert, while the Dutch began their season with wins over Pella Christian. The Newton boys beat Gilbert 3025 to 2640, while the Cardinal girls won 2045 to 1556. The Pella boys defeated Pella Christian 2,937 to 2,023, and the Dutch girls completed the sweep with a 1,996 to 1,237 victory. Newton bowling coach Christie Lester said she was really impressed with the boys teams’ performance.

“My goal was to get 2,800 pins which in the past has been a lofty goal. They told me going in they were going to get 3,000 and they did. They got 3,025. That was pretty cool.”

Today’s bowling meet between Newton and Pella at Cardinal Lanes in Newton begins at 2 p.m.
