Prior to the start of the 2024-2025 school year, Pella Christian Schools announced that they would have cell phone free campuses when classes began this year.
Head of Schools Dan Zylstra says that the new Smart Device Policy, in which students turn in their phones at the beginning of the school day, has received positive feedback from faculty, parents, and students. Zylstra says that the policy has helped allow students and faculty to flourish in academics and mental and social health, while also building better communication and community within the school. Zylstra adds that the policy has also benefitted teachers by minimizing a potential distraction during class time.
“For our staff, it’s one less thing that they would have had to invest energy on and policing and checking up on. And they can focus more on their instruction and on their relationships with the students.”
