Basketball doubleheader at Ballard

The Norwalk basketball teams travel to Huxley tonight for a girl-boy varsity doubleheader against the Ballard Bombers. The girls game will tip off at 6:00 p.m., followed by the season-opening boys contest at approximately 7:30. Both games can be streamed live on kniakrls.com (KNIA3), beginning with pregame coverage at 5:45.

The Class 4A fourth-ranked Norwalk girls enter tonight’s contest with a 3-0 record, having outscored Urbandale, ADM and Bondurant-Farrar by 24, 22 and 49 points, respectively. Ballard is 1-1 on the season. The Bombers lost to Dallas Center-Grimes by 32 points and defeated Clear Lake 37-27. Norwalk won last year’s meeting 60-46, outscoring Ballard 52-27 during the final three quarters.

The boys contest will match two traditionally-strong programs. Norwalk finished 18-6 last year and reached the Class 4A substate finals. Ballard went 16-9 and reached the 3A state tournament. The Bombers defeated the Warriors in last year’s opener, 56-50.
