A Jasper County non-profit that expects to assist about 300 local children and families this Christmas is in need of donations. Jessica Lowe-Vokes is the President of St. Nick’s Christmas Club. She says the organization has been giving Christmas presents to needy Jasper County children since 1988.
“St. Nick’s is dedicated to giving each child a new outfit so that they have that to go back to school with. We also make sure they get an item off their wish list.”
Lowe-Vokes adds that families accepted into St. Nick’s Christmas Club are also given food cards in an amount based on the number of children they have. Last year, she says that cost the non-profit about $10,000. Anyone who would like to adopt a child and shop for that child’s outfit and wish list item can look through the adoption book at the Newton YMCA. Donations to St. Nick’s Christmas Club can also be sent to, P.O. Box 162, Newton, Iowa 50208.
