The City of Knoxville is finishing phase one of the street improvement project this week.

An update on the project provided by the city states, “Finishing touches on pavement will be completed in the next few days and clean up will begin. By the end of the week Main Street between First and Second Street will re-open. We appreciate the businesses patience during this construction season as we know it’s been grueling. Many unforeseen circumstances such foundation voids, old abandoned infrastructure, contaminated soils, utility relocation repairs, etc. added to the extent of this project timeframe. For Phase 2, the mainline will also be paved this week. Over the next few days, the contractor will be prepping to bring in the paver. Wednesday, December 4th is currently planned for this. After the mainline is paved, weather temperatures will play a significant part in the continued progress of this section before it shuts them completely down for the winter.”

Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery says the City is looking forward to getting the roadway open back up.

“We think back to the other streetscape projects that we have had and things came up as well, but it has seemed like it’s been longer than it was intended, especially for phase one. We are very much looking forward to getting that roadway open back up.”
